Situation and access

 

                                         The boundaries of Kothmale reservoir are as follows ; to the east of Sanqilipalama to the south of Wavehena; to the North of Panaqammana and to the west of Kadadora. This reservoir may reach up to Panaoya and it will join into the Kothmale stream. According to this scheme 16 Grama Niladari divisions, 4 village council divisions, 66 villages and four tea estates will drown . The four village councils are Pallehena Tispane, Madapane and Ulapane. The 16 Grama midadari divisions are Mawela, Masuela, Kadadhora, Morape, Thispane Wataddhara, Navamgama, Hadaunuwara, Kalapitiya, Haldeniya , Kumbaloluwa, Niyanqandara, Sanqilipalama, Ramboda, Panaqammano and karagastalawa. 66 villages are not mentioned here ,which will sink for the tank.

                 Normally there will be three or four villages in one Grama Wildari division. Four tea estates will be sunk for this purpose- one of them is called ‘Choisi’.  Plots of this Estate have been given among the people under the land reform commission and the land development board.

             All the villages  are situated in Ulapane, Pussallawa , Nawalapitiya, Sangilipalama ,Pundalluoya and Thawalatanna. 2901 Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim families will be displaced.

                                                     According  to religion  2509 families are Sinhalese. There were only two Catholic and Christian families of the total. According to this division 98.28% of the families Sinhalese and 84.7% are Buddhist.

                                Most of these families will be resettled in Kalawara “H” region. The other families will be settled in other developing areas and compensation will be paid for the loss of lands and they will be given land in the designated resettlement areas.
