A 600 meter long concrete dam was being built across the Kothmale stream. Its height is 703 meters from sea level. It will be able to hold a minimum quantity of 174 million cubic meters of water. The level of the middle of the dam has been 706.5 meters from the sea level. The face of the top of the dam is 300 milimeter thick and the foot of the dam is 474 milimeters. A sluice gate and a series of ‘choote’ will be fixed o n the left side of the resevoir. Three gates which were sized at 14-15 meters have been fixed. These gates are able to release 5550 cubic  meters of water per second. ‘D’ shaped and 30 feet cylindrical two tunnerls had already been buitt to divert the river. These two tunnels can release a quantity of 1700 cubic metre of water per second. The size of this flow is similar a flood which takes place once in a hundred years.

A tunnel will be constructed under the tank to enter in to the internal flow of the dam. Overflowing water will be released to the river from this tunnel. It should be able to release a minimum quantity of 420 cubic meters of water to manage the water level of 690 meters from the center of the sea.

While the entering structure is to be built on on the right side of the river bank it would be able to release 113 cubic meters of water 165 meters below of this structure a 5.3 meter and 84 meter deep diametrical gate structure has been built.

Under the system of water Management this consisted with a structure which is 6560 meters long, a 6.2 meter size cylindrical horse shoe shaped low pressure tunnel a 15 meter size cylindrical as well as 160 meter deep pillar and also a high pressure tunnel. The end of the high pressure tunnels down side -which is being built next to the power house - consists of steel pipes. The face of the so called pipes are 4.5 meter in size. The high pressure tunnel system is divided in two 2.5 meter cylindrical parts in step by step to concentrate the water in to each generator. The power station where there are three electric power turbines is 70-18-34.7 meter in size.

The low pressure cabin is to be constructed  beside the power house.  The horse shoe shaped end of the tunnel’s diameter is 6-2 meter and 442 meters in length.

The electric transformer has been built over where the power house is to be built. A well has been built beside the power house for the purpose of ventillation, fixing instrument such as cables etc.

Two turbine machines series of ‘Francis’ which have been fixed to the generators and the main supply will be about 134 megawatt. According to the beginning of the Mahaweli Scheme long term annual general total is estimated at 500 megawatt hours and total exceeding gegawatt hours is 460.
